Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty adopted Dong Zhongshu's idea of "ruling the country with virtue" and implemented the policy of "rejecting all schools of thought and respecting Confucianism alone", thus establishing the orthodox position of Confucianism in the field of ideology and culture. This policy, combined with the centralized ruling system that dominated the political field, further developed and improved the idea of great unity, effectively promoted national integration, and created a great unity situation that lasted for thousands of years in history.

Later, after the great unity development of the Sui and Tang Dynasties and the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, the great national integration was achieved in the Qing Dynasty, and finally a multi-integrated pattern of the Chinese nation was formed, creating a great unity situation of national integration and development.

Although ethnic conflicts have occurred repeatedly, under the guidance of the great unity idea, the Chinese nation has not only not perished, but has become more vital and achieved integration and symbiosis.
